Welcome
There must be numerous ‘heart-of-the-Cotswolds’ villages all with picturesque reasons for the claim. It is villages like Paxford, however, that lend a little reality to the picture. There are views but they don’t get in the way of a working village that has at its heart The Churchill Arms.
The quality and the integrity of the food is something special. They support local suppliers and encourage them to seek out new produce. Consequently the menus do not stand still. There is a great choice of beers with real ales from local breweries and always a guest ale. The wine list is imaginative and well priced with something for everyone, there is also a good selection by the glass.
Sonya Kidney and Leo Brooke-Little are the husband and wife team that took over the Churchill Arms in 1997. Since then it has been consistently applauded by customers and critics alike. Their success and their desire to please their customers with the best of everything go hand in hand. It is a place to enjoy a drink and have some very good food.
Should you wish to stay, there are four fully equipped ensuite bedrooms; £70 double, £40 single. A full English breakfast is included with homemade museli, bread and marmalade, orange and grapefruit segemnts are prepared to order, the bacon comes from Gloucester Old Spot pigs which leases one well set up for a trip to Stratford, Cheltenham races, the RHS Gardens at Hidcote or simply a walk in the Cotswolds.
For those looking for food that matters then The Churchill Arms is an essential stop on any visit to the Cotswolds – and a very good reason to plan a visit.
