The Bar
The pub has an open plan layout which is shaped like an āLā with the bar in the middle. One half has timbered ceilings, an inglenook fire place, flag and oak flooring and dates back to the 17th century. The other half was a more recent addition by the previous landlord. We have tried to decorate it sympathetically and it also now has an oak floor. There is little coordination between tables and chairs, when a chair gives up we usually find a replacement in a junk shop or antique shop depending on the cash flow.
The philosophy behind the pub is to offer courteous but relaxed service within a traditional pub setting. To this end we do not take table bookings, the menu is chalked up on the wall and all orders are taken at the bar. We have regular clientel who come to drink good beer, prop up the bar and discuss everything from Aardvarks to Ziggurats as well as those who come to eat and drink pinot noir, merlot and zinfandel.
Paxford is set on the northern tip of the Cotswolds and the pub has views accross the typical undulating countryside of the area. There are some lovely walks in and around the village. You can take a half mile stroll along the brook or use it as a starting point to walk The Cotswold Way which meanders down to Bath taking in about 70 miles of the Cotswolds.
